I haven't posted any art images for a while because I want to show how the art is made. Here is another structure that will become a sculpture. In a dream there were two stones I found in the ground. One was so big it was not possible to move but one was and it is becoming a non dream sculpture. The two points or ears on top of this were on the stone in the dream. It was the one I could pick up and walk away with.

I didn't walk away with it though because the property owner would have upon seeing it gone " oh great you found me a beautiful stone Bob" and I would have had to say yes and walk away with out it.

That is why I'm making my own stone and if any one is going to walk away with this one they will be gladly paying me for it! Finding beautiful stones and possessing them seems to be a very ancient human desire. Since I'm not finding but making these stones does this change anything ? I'm not copying any stones or rendering the likeness of a particular stone. I don't know what to call it.

It will be what it will be.
It's beginning to have sides, surfaces and a platform. (it's actually 3" taller now above the platform;picture not available yet) So far it's about 2 feet tall.

This may not be interesting to any one but it is where I spend my time and energy and you usually only see the outer skin of the work. It is a working from the inside out way of seeing. The form eventually appears. Come back if you care to and there will be more stages to see. Beautiful stones are for ever in my opinion. (sounds like a diamond commercial)

Sculpture in pieces

These three concrete bowls are the foundation of the next and last sculpture in a series called Host and Guest; the earth being the host and we be the guests. The shiny on top are lug nuts I re threaded to accommodate common stainless coarse thread bolts. The white ( which won't be white later ) Eiffel  tower like image will be attached to the concrete rice bowls with the shiny lug nuts.

This is a version of the shape below before the concrete was added. This galvanized lathing is what supports the concrete.

This sphere of a thing is the earth planet;Host. It will bolt to the Eiffel tower part . It is made of concrete and has big holes in it and it's hollow in side. That on the right is a little ramp up to my drawing room in the back ground.
This steel primed white Eiffel tower part holds up the earth planet with one big bolt.
This part is the Guest and it  looks like a house. It is cast in concrete with a bolt coming through the top. It will be suspended inside the hollow earth ball.
On top of the earth ball is a white dome that holds a 4foot tall tapered pointer. The house and the pointer are co-joined by a spring inside that dome. The slightest movement of the pointer will be indicated by movement of the house.

So often we look at art and never know how it was made. There is nothing conclusive here but it's how I put this art together. In the case of this series of Host and Guest it is clear to me how ever we treat the Host we are still all ways the Guest.

Getting a Leg Down in the World

Where do you put our two feet every day?
On a set of stairs to a rhythm someone else made?
Your feet and you know your toes like nobody knows
 so why not step down.

Always Learning to Walk

is what I say here with this new sculpture. Our characters may harbor all kinds of directional habits but actually we always take new steps every single one of them. We are walking on a new planet and even with paths by our creation or others we accept our steps because we create them.

Just think ; every time you take a step you create something. I think that's a big responsibility to the world!

Beechwood Arts is a contemporary salon I have been invited to participate in. We artists are showing work in doors and out. here are three of my sculptures on the property. Cirque Royal above, quartz Migration in the middle and Quartz Destination below.

It was a hot and bright mid day as these images attest.

This one is about my height(5-6 feet)  and it will have another one about 2.5 feet under it. I'll be able to move them around and stack them to make groups of mountains.

It's enough that they exist. Free and clear of any reason to be; there is all the space for others to participate.

This is my new Mole Hills Out Of Mountains activity. I started doing these after unearthing an old form I had made; age 18 - Now 59. It was at my mothers outside and it was in perfect condition. I hauled it home to Southbury and then and there decided to go back to working in this material. It is made of a light weight concrete (and very time durable) applied to an armature. They are looking just like my sumi drawings.

This is the second one; there is a third on the way. There is more to happen with them and I'll post it as it grows. Basically there a lot of fun and I want to share it with you. I'll post the old one soon.

Homan Being

I'm very seldom satisfied with any still image of my sculpture. Maybe a vidio would be more satisfying? This is a mildly edited seen in which it is now; stumped.. The change from the first image is a crome circle on it's head. Many people would see a halo. Well maybe there is something to it as when the world is round we must be aware of that roundness . A thought picture comes out of the head?  The Homan Being is a name that I've been kicking around a while. People live in homes; some of us, and our body is a home too if we so think it is. All in all more imagination at work for more thought.

bright light sculpture

It's been a while since the last post. This is the first sculpture from my new home. There was so much stuff to do before this; moving after 20 years from the same place and building a chimney at the new house for the wood stove cutting wood , etceteraaaaaaa!.
It was so much fun doing this there hasn't been the time to name it yet. There is a lot more on the way. I hope to be more active on this blog now that the sculpture has resumed

nature and art dance sometimes

We have been looking out the kitchen window at this seen for at least a month now. What a successfull dance of sculpture and three hydrangia . Our Friend John Trainor gave the three bushes to us this spring . I don't know the nane of them but they look good at all stages of bloom so far. The sculpture is called Cirque Royal. Each of the swirols of white is a crown of a dead king or queen.

Other worldly

Where in the world is this? And what is that two leged thing?
That is what a new inviorment can do to an old familier sculpture. It's Hello and it's at home in Southbury,CT.
Could be in an African country!

Our Home

There on the left is the drive way and the door mat and the door is right around the corner of the house. This is the second placement and the sculpture is called Quartz Night. It is equiped with solar lights that illuminates the key hole when we return at night. There is an out door light around the corner but it's not working. The Solution search leads me to new places. Not allways optimal but entertaining.

Fatal Transgressions: A Septette

Here is the show I mentioned earlier. It all takes place in side the mythic whale.
New Bedford is a mysterious place and I'm glad to be adding more to that mystery.

Gluttony
There are 14 artists with new work for a show at Colo Colo Gallery in New Bedford, MA.
Don Wilkinson an artist who shows with Colo Colo is curating this show. A facet of his work is the subject of the seven deadly sins; a part of the christian religions. He assigned each of us, seven women and seven men, a sin . I received the sin of gluttony and the above sculpture is what I created. I'm looking forward to the show in December this year to see all the variety. I'll post the show information when I get it.
I'm almost certain it isn't necessary to be a sinner to attend.

Sculpture

Versus What ?
A sculpture that got finished this morning. Early enough that Rita and I had breakfast with it. I highly recomend starting off a new springish day with a good new sculpture; versus........... milk and toast!
